The momentum for the “13” series has been building at a steady clip. This time last year the ashcan (issue #0) was being previewed at Comic-Con. By November, the series had debuted at Los Angeles’ legendary Golden Apple and by May 2008 the series had expanded to stores and libraries in 19 states. Throughout this time 13’s talented artists and young stars have appeared at in-store signings and conventions all over the country.
Now the cast, creator, artists and staff are converging at BOOTH #828 to face the most demanding fans in existence - the attendees of Comic-Con International. The “13” crew is more than ready. Armed with copies of every issue, photos of the cast, posters, t-shirts and other merchandise, they are pumped to meet the masses.
Though it’s the first time at the Con for some of the folks behind “13,” cast members Bradley Stevenson (“Simon”) and Dmitri Schuyler {“Robbie”) are on their second tour. They were on the front lines at Comic-Con 2007 as part of the Street Team, which distributed thousands of cards and ashcans.
TUMBLE CREEK PRESS will debut several items at Comic-Con 2008 including “13” issue #3 and new posters of every major character in the series.

“Escape! to Outer Space” is written by “13” series creator Dani Dixon and is set to debut in 2009. “Escape! to Outer Space” is very different from “13” both in look and in tone - for one, “E!tOS”, as the title might imply, will have a lot more humor.
The first arc of “E!tOS” is already written, according to Dixon. “We’re hoping to round out the art staff in the next couple of months. Style-wise, I think it makes sense to keep “13” and “E!tOS” artists separate. Plus the “13” artists are going to be pretty busy for the foreseeable future.”

The cover says it all - those creepy twins that showed up at the end of issue #2 are back! I think they’ll prove to be fascinating characters, more than just one chilling image.” Fans can also expect to see more of other favorites, including Thane, Alin and Simon.
TUMBLE CREEK PRESS first previewed the 13 series last year at Comic-Con 2007 where Street Teams distributed thousands of cards and ashcans. After winning the role of Thane last year Wilcox has made a number of appearances - last fall at Unicoi County’s Apple Festival, signings in North Carolina and Los Angeles - but this week’s appearance will be unique. With panels, screenings and “the floor” overtaking the entire San Diego Convention Center, Comic-Con has grown to be the largest - and most influential convention of its kind. Wilcox couldn’t be more ready.
“It never fails,” says series creator Dani Dixon, “no matter how many times someone has heard that there’s a real kid behind each super-powered 13 in the book, they’re just amazed when they see the kid in person.” Wilcox will have to get used to double-takes by the thousands over the course of the Convention.
Wilcox will be joined by the entire “13” cast, artists from the series and Dixon at Comic-Con. Fans can find them all at BOOTH #828 and pick up merchandise for the series ranging from t-shirts (featuring Wilcox’s visage) to the comic books themselves - and posters, lots and lots of posters.
“13” books and posters can be found online (www.TUMBLECREEKPRESS.com/store) and in stores around the country. Tennessee residents can also find copies of “13” in Reelfoot County libraries - Benton, Carroll, Gibson, Henry, Obion and Weakley.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 22, 2008 11:00 AM PST
The commanding image on the cover of the latest issue of hit comic book series “13” is that of twin girls and their chilling stance. But as your eyes take in more of the details on the page you’ll notice something truly startling - all the names on the cover belong to women. In an industry still heavily dominated by males, it’s surprising to see a comic book where creator, writer, penciller, inker, colorist and cover artist are all female.
“13”, a full-color, comic book series from TUMBLE CREEK PRESS, tells the ongoing story of a society in which, at the age of 13, every child gets a superpower for one year. It’s a year without any rules, and a year that will determine the rest of their lives.
Series creator Dani Dixon wasn’t trying to make a statement with issue #3, just hire great people. “There’s a cool kind of symmetry though, that the first issue with girls on the cover had a bunch of girls behind the scenes.”
Dixon can next be seen on the “Indies in Comics” panel at industry juggernaut Comic-Con International, Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 11:00 am in Room 2. Dixon and many of the artists for the series can be found throughout the Convention, which runs Wednesday, July 23rd through Sunday, July 27th, at BOOTH #828.
Issue #3 of “13” will be released Wednesday, July 23, 2008 online, in stores and at Comic-Con International. For more information on these artists, the “13” series or TUMBLE CREEK PRESS visit www.TumbleCreekPress.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 22, 2008 11:00 AM PST
When young actress Cristina Mendoza came in for a modeling audition last Spring for TUMBLE CREEK PRESS she had no idea what to expect. The breakdown said the company was looking for a 15-16 year old Latina for a photo shoot - for a comic book?
Independent publisher TUMBLE CREEK PRESS was embarking on something different - hiring kids to embody the main characters of new series “13” and doing so before the first panel was drawn. The goal, according to series creator Dani Dixon, was threefold: specificity, ethnic accuracy and character consistency.
That’s where Mendoza came in. After beating out hundreds, Mendoza was cast as 15 year old “Dez Wall,” a character full of ambition, but without great timing. “13” tells the ongoing story of a society in which, at the age of 13, every child gets a superpower for one year. It’s a year without any rules, and a year that will determine the rest of their lives.
Mendoza got the first look at her character at Los Angeles Comic-Con this past fall. “Even she was startled at the resemblance,” says Dixon. “Cristina brings a lot to the character of Dez - strength, intelligence, beauty - all of that informs our artists as they create the images that will define the series.”
“13” artists and cast can next be seen at Comic-Con International, which runs Wednesday, July 23rd through Sunday, July 27th, at BOOTH #828. Enthusiasts can pick up series merchandise ranging from books to t-shirts to photos of the cast. An item making its debut at Comic-Con will be a new poster of Dez drawn by industry veteran Robert Roach. More tableau than portrait, it captures a pivotal upcoming scene from the series.

Having barely unpacked her suitcases from in-store signings on the east coast, Dani Dixon, comic book creator and writer for the series “13,” is next scheduled to speak at Animé Los Angeles. Animé Los Angeles is billed as a very “fan-friendly” convention for enthusiasts of animation, illustration and of course, comics.
“I’ve been to a lot of conventions, but this will be my first time sitting on stage. It’s very exciting,” says Dixon. Dixon was approached to speak at the convention this fall, shortly before the “13” series made its splashy debut at Los Angeles comic book shop Golden Apple. Issue #1 of the “13” series hit stores this November after a steady stream of sneak peeks, trailers and appearances at conventions large and small.
Dani Dixon, who is also the president of TUMBLE CREEK PRESS, the publisher for the series, is doing double-duty at Animé Los Angeles. First, Saturday, January 5th, she and Jason Merrell, co-editor for the series, will sign autographs and review portfolios of new artists. TUMBLE CREEK PRESS is hoping to find some great illustrators for upcoming issues of “13” and additional titles. The portfolio review presents a rare opportunity for new artists to break into a sometimes exclusive, always competitive, industry.
Then Sunday, January 6th, Dixon will be joined by Camellia E. Cox (colorist for “13” since Issue #0 premiered at Comic-Con last July) on a panel devoted to the “13” series. Audience members at the Sunday panel will be the first to see the new “13” trailer which showcases art from upcoming issues and reveals a bit more about the complex mythology of the “13” universe. Dixon will also share her insights on independent publishing - from production to marketing.
ABOUT ANIME LOS ANGELES
Animé Los Angeles (http://www.Animelosangeles.or/ala/) is a three-day animation-centered convention beginning Friday, January 4th. Having outgrown its previous location, Animé Los Angeles will be held at the Burbank Convention Center for the first time since its inception four years ago. Approximately 2500 people are expected to attend. Animé Los Angeles is the only convention in California with a Con Suite: a room open to all members, every day, with free snacks and soft drinks.

After a steady and aggressive marketing campaign that began in force at the San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, TUMBLE CREEK PRESS is set to release the much-anticipated first issue of its comic book series “13.”
For the first time, the entire cast of “13,” the youth hired to help artists bring the main characters to life, will be in attendance. Various cast members have appeared at numerous conventions and events since TUMBLE CREEK PRESS released the ashcan (a preview of issue #1) in July. However, many of the young actors have never met, though their counterparts interact throughout the action-packed, angst-filled first issue.
The cast, along with creator, Dani Dixon, and the talented artists who worked on the book, will be available for autographs, questions and pictures. “It is a very exciting time - for everyone to be together, to have a physical book in hand, and of course, to know people will soon be reading 13,” says Dixon.
To learn more about the world of “13,” including all of the kids and their respective powers, visit www.TUMBLECREEKPRESS.com/thirteen or watch the trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zhdq-anvKg).

Tennessee teen Lucas Wilcox beat out hundreds earlier this Spring in casting sessions held in Los Angeles for one of the coveted roles in the comic book series “13.” “13” creator, Dani Dixon, wanted a sense of realism and consistency with each book and therefore set out to find eight kids who could embody each character. Wilcox claimed the role of “Thane Tucker,” the series’ lead.
Apple Festival, a two-day event, boasts 100,000 attendees every year. The TUMBLE CREEK PRESS booth, which is right on Main Street, will be bursting with “13” gear. In addition to meeting Wilcox and finding out about his unique experience working on “13,” visitors to the TUMBLE CREEK PRESS booth can pick up free copies of the ashcan (a preview of Issue #1) and “13” trading cards. Lucky raffle winners will score the official “13” T-shirt, an autographed poster of a key character or a 1-year subscription.
The “13” artists and cast members who live throughout California recently attended the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention. Dixon, who is also president of TUMBLE CREEK PRESS, made sure to take advantage of the gathering by having everyone set aside time for autographs. Every single poster available at the TUMBLE CREEK PRESS booth at Apple Festival has been signed by the series creator, illustrators, colorist, and in some cases, the kid whose face was the inspiration. “We couldn’t get everyone to Tennessee, but I didn’t want anyone who came by the booth to miss out.”
Issue #1 of the series will be released this November. To learn more about the world of “13,” including all of the kids and their respective powers, visit www.TUMBLECREEKPRESS.com/thirteen.

In their third convention in as many months, TUMBLE CREEK PRESS, the publisher of the highly anticipated new series “13,” will be returning to LA Comic-Con. Comic book fans can ask artists about the look, feel and scope of the new series, as everyone from creator to colorist will be there to answer their questions.
The TUMBLE CREEK PRESS booth will be teeming with “13” gear - posters, ashcans, cards, t-shirts - and a few special guests. A unique aspect of the “13” series is that real kids were cast to represent the main characters, bringing a sense of realism and consistency to each book. Some of those kids will be in attendance on Sunday at the booth and available for photos, autographs and interviews.
“This Monday is the last Web reveal. So I think it’ll be fun to see if people have started choosing favorites.” Dani Dixon, creator of the series, is referring to the weekly updates on www.TUMBLECREEKPRESS.com of key characters in the “13” series. A new web page is devoted to each kid every Monday and includes their name, family background and what the government believes their potential to be. Web reveals began July 23, 2007 with the character “Thane” and conclude September 24, 2007 with “Matthew.”
Visitors to the TUMBLE CREEK PRESS booth at LA Comic-Con can also win various “13” related prizes including the highly coveted official “13” T-shirt and a one year subscription of the series.

TUMBLE CREEK PRESS street teams promoted "13" this weekend at Comic-Con International as advertisers, retailers and fans signed on to the complex, exciting new series. Artist Donie Odulio said, “I loved the fact that the characters in “13” were real kids in contemporary times because I didn’t want to draw men in tights.” Given the inner conflict prevalent in the writing, Odulio’s art style for the series was inspired by both graffiti and art nouveau.
Dani Dixon, creator and writer for “13” said, “I think we were really smart about our approach to “13”. I have a finance background, so I knew I had to marry talented artists with talented business people.” During the four days of Comic-Con TUMBLE CREEK PRESS also held several interviews with both established and emerging artists.
TUMBLE CREEK PRESS street teams distributed over 10,000 promotional items including ashcans (small preview books), trading cards, posters and t-shirts and succeeded in making their presence known, even against much larger companies. Dixon, who is also President of TUMBLE CREEK PRESS, said one of the best moments of this year’s Comic-Con was when a street team member reported that he was starting to run into people who already had the ashcan. “When you have a crowd of over 100,000 and you find kids that not only were handed the book, but can take it out of their bags and show you because they’ve hung on to it, you know you’re actually penetrating the market.”

GIRL POWERS

A NEW FACE IN COMICS
